Al Hermsen has been in the financial aid profession for over 40 years. He spend most of his career at the University of Michigan in the Financial Aid Office and in the Accounting Department. When he retired from Michigan in 2007 he became the Financial Aid Director at Wayne State University. In 2013 he became an independent consultant, assisting financial aid offices for Colleges and Universities. During his career he was a frequent speaker at state, regional and national financial aid conferences. He served as President of the Michigan Financial Aid Association and the NASFAA Research Committee. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University and an MBA from Eastern University.
