The University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY
Director of Student Financial Aid 2002-2010
Managed the central office of financial aid for Wyoming’s only public university. Supervised annual awarding of $85 million to a student body of 13,500 students. Served as an integral member of the enrollment management team. Supervised 20.5 full-time professional and support staff. Significant accomplishments include:
- Lead individual in developing proposed scholarship reform to better target scholarship funds using econometric modeling principles. Cultivated buy-in from colleges and departments through personal contact for implementation of scholarship reform.
- Supervised review of all endowed financial aid funds of the university to determine best use for enhancement of enrollment management goals. Removed layers of non-required, non-donor restrictions to broaden use of funds including the expansion of need-based grant opportunities for students in addition to providing budget relief for unfunded scholarship aid.
- Served on the university’s SIS Steering Team and directed the financial aid office’s conversion to the SCT Banner student information system.
- Assisted the Wyoming legislative Education Committee in their deliberations concerning the implementation of the Wyoming Hathaway Scholarship Program, a statewide scholarship and grant program based on high school test scores, grades and curriculum. Advised the Financial Aid Directors at the Wyoming Community Colleges of developments and seeking input.
The University of Denver, Denver, CO
Director of Student Financial Services 1999-2002
Managed the financial aid, accounts receivable, billing, loan collections, financial advising center and cashiering functions for independent university of 10,000 students. Supervised 31 full-time professional and support staff. Significant accomplishments include:
- Reorganized the previously combined offices of financial aid and bursar to improve services offered to students, to other offices on campus and to the campus community at large. Managed the university’s $95 million financial aid program and the collection of $150 million annually in tuition revenues.
- Developed and implemented graduate/professional level Federal Family Educational Loan Program with the university serving as the lender. This program generated income ($1.5 million in fiscal year 2002) that increased student grant aid, reduced loan costs to students and subsidized the university's grant and scholarship programs.
- Directed the office’s conversion to SCT Banner student information system replacing an outdated combination of manual and limited homegrown computer systems for processing financial aid, accounts receivables, loan collections and cashiering.
The University of Tulsa, Tulsa, OK

Administered $30 million financial aid program for independent university of 4,300 students. Supervised professional and support staff of 11. Programs administered included all university scholarships, grants, work and loans, as well as federal, state and private aid programs. Significant accomplishments include:
- Reorganized and expanded office staffing to better meet needs of student body of 4,300 heavily dependent upon financial assistance – over 65 percent of undergraduates received institutional funding; over 85 percent received some type of financial assistance;
- Developed and implemented a computer-based modeling system driven by both student financial need and achievement, leveraged limited institutional resources by targeting scholarships and grants toward those students deemed most attractive for recruitment to the university;
- Developed and implemented a graduate/professional level Federal Family Educational Loan Program with the university serving as the lender. This $10 million program generated income (over $400,000 annually) to subsidize the university's grant and scholarship programs;
- Implemented conversion to the Datatel Colleague student information system for processing financial aid;
- Implemented centralized control of student assistance programs with particular emphasis in centralizing departmentally controlled scholarships in the Office of Student Financial Services;
- Established financial aid web page that included scholarship listings and student employment opportunities with expanded community service;
Alfred University, Alfred, New York 1976-1989

Administrative position with independent university of 2,100 students – 85% received financial aid. Significant accomplishments included the development and implementation of a university-designed automated financial aid system; the construction and implementation of a computer-based modeling system for leveraging institutional assistance; established the first Job Locator program in Western New York; created an award-winning financial planning manual; and, established electronic student employment bulletin board.
